Angelman syndrome

In 1965 a Genetic Disorder know as Angelman Syndrome was discovered by Harry Angelman. Angelman syndrome is a genetic disorder that is much like autism that effects your nervous system. This disorder includes symptoms such as development delay, intellectual disability, slurred speech, seizures, balancing issues. Unfortunately there are no cures but there are treatments that can help this genetic disorder. For example if a child has balancing issues you go for physical therapy or if you have slurred speech you can go for speech therapy and most people who have Angelman disorder take various medications. 1 in 12,000 to 20,000 people are diagnosed with Angelman disorder. This disorder can occur to all raises. To be diagnosed with this disease you do not need to inherit it. For instance to be diagnosed with this disease you do not even have to have the history of it in your family because of some of the things that are happening at the molecular level. Such as doctors find that very small deleted areas in the chromosomes. That contains genes that are activated or inactivated. If the chromosomes are turned on this disorder does not occur, but if turned off or missing this disorder does occur. Personally my opinion on this Genetic Disorder is I think it is unfortunate how some people are diagnosed with this disease and others are because I do not think this is fair.
