Travel today seems to be the birthright of most Americans, and although the economy has changed dramatically, people are still traveling. For example one of the recent times many people have traveled even though they could hardly afford it was for the inauguration of President Obama. This brought over 2 million people to this historic event. The people who traveled to this inauguration were not just Americans.
Therefore, why be at a historic event if you can't even understand a word of what the speakers are saying. They had French, Italian, German, Spanish, Dutch, Chinese, Russian and Farsi translators available to translate for the foreign tourists. Dwight D. Eisenhower the 34th President once said "increased visits by citizens of one country to another gives each the fullest opportunity to learn about other nations." In other words that means all people of the earth should be able to get the opportunity to learn about other people's culure. So then we can create peace in all counties around the world.
Personally my favorite quote from this article was "increased visits by citizens of one country to another to give each the fullest opportunity to learn about other nations," was my favorite qoute because not all children have a equal opportunity
to go to a schoool and learn about other countries. When you are from a foreign country, and visit a place other than your usual habitat it teaches you about the cultures, stereotypes, prejudices and helps us realize that we are but one small part of a very diverse and connected world.
